Feisty Lea gallivants all over the savanna until she is frightened by a rhinoceros. 'A lion is never afraid,' Father Lion admonishes her. However, when he hears a thundering sound in the distance, he moves his family to the mountains. 'Fear makes us cautious, and caution is not cowardly,' her mother explains. So goes the plot of this slight book. The illustrations, done in warm tones of brown, green, and orange, are pleasant but there's something incongruous about a picture of a lion smiling while telling his cub he hears gunshots. Pass on this one.
